Product description

  • SOW OUTDOORS: January to March. HARVESTS: July onwards. APPROX SEEDS: 200
  • SOWING INDOORS: The best way to start alpine strawberries from seed is to sow seeds indoors, under grow lights, in late winter. The seeds can take several weeks to germinate, but once they sprout, they grow quickly. The ideal soil temperature for germination is between 65 and 75 degrees F.
  • OUTDOOR PLANTING TIPS: For best results put your seeds in the freezer for 2-4 weeks before sowing. Sprinkle seeds onto the surface of the soil in pots of moist compost and press down. Store in warm place at an approx. temperature of 15-20 degrees C (60-80 degrees F). Keep the soil moist and be careful not to over- water. Harvest the berries as soon as they ripen
  • ALPINE STRAWBERRIES: Alpine strawberries - Fragaria vescans (also commonly known as Woodland or alpine strawberry) are much prettier than the beefy modern garden varieties, with small white flowers and fruit held high, often above the leaves. They bear fruit throughout the summer months, with production peaking in mid-summer, and are tough little plants that can tolerate a variety of soils
  • GREAT IN HANGING BASKETS & CONTAINERS: Alpine strawberries do beautifully in containers, raised beds, hanging baskets, windowboxes, and even along the edges of foundation plantings. Plan to divide plants every four or five years to keep production high and prevent the plants from becoming crowded.
